INTRODUCTION
Solomon spoke 3000 proverbs and composed 1005 songs, and the Song of all
songs, the greatest song of all times is this song. This song depicts the deep
relationship of two lovers, and expresses the love relationship of Christ and His Church
(1Ki 4:32).
It speaks of King Solomon in his full glory, with 60 queens, 80
concubines, altogether 1000 wives and countless virgins yet the Shulamite, a Palestinian
gentile woman, was the only one (Song 6:8) that pleased Him above all . Just as Christ,
the creator, and owner of all heavens and earth, in all heavenly splendour and majestic
glory has set His heart to love His Church which was born out of darkness and spiritual
poverty.
There are 4 things too wonderful for the wisest man on earth to
understand, and one of them is the way of a man with a virgin - the way of Christ and His
Church (Prov 30:19). No wonder it is the Song of all his songs and the song of all times.
It speaks of how the wisest man, in all his wisdom transformed a simple gentile young
woman into a beautiful queen of royalty and spendour. Just as Jesus, by His manifold
infinite wisdom transforms the gentile church, and each individual into the glory of His
image, fitted to sit with Him on the throne. And only through and by Her, that the
mysteries that were hidden from the foundation of the earth were revealed and made
understood by all creation, including the angels (Eph 3:9,10).
Contrary to the belief of many that it is only meant to be a book to be
read by couples before marriage, it is a highly spiritual allegory, illustrating the union
of Christ and the Church and each individual Christian, as expressed by the closest human
relation possibly known to man, the relationship of two lovers, a man and a woman, a
husband and a wife, namely marriage. The King in His full glory, is attracted by a gentile
young woman, and had come to love her so dearly. He lured her, dealt with her with His
manifold wisdom, riches, beauty, power, and His all, transforming her from her simplicity
and backwardness into the glorious beauty and splendour of the heavenlies.
It is not a mushy story of blind love but one of true courage, the story
of a faithful virgin, who, for love's sake, laid down all that she had to pursue after her
Beloved to win His heart. She had to go through fiery trials of hard dealings and
purification before finally reaching the Promised Land of glory and the Pinnacle of
spiritual height to reign with the King of Eternity.
It illustrates the power of divine love and the working of the Holy
Spirit in the life of those who are absolutely surrendered to Him. It reveals:
- How He allured her into the wilderness and dealt with her (Hos 11:4), to
be put to death with Christ and resurrected in the beauty and power of God. It is in the
Valley of Achor (Heb - trouble) that He dealt with the individuals and transformed them
from being slaves to true freedom and to be the bride of Jesus Christ (Hos 2:14-16).
- The path a soul must take as she is translated from spiritual poverty to
arrive at the pinnacle of spiritual glory, for she is destined and betrothed to be the
bride of the Son of God, King of Heaven.
- How we can be transformed from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom
of light and liberty, delivered from spiritual death and barrenness to be one who is rich,
beautiful and anointed with the power of God.
It is the Song in Revelation that no one can sing except the 144,000
spiritual virgins on Mount Zion, who are absolutely surrendered to Him, who will follow
Him wherever He goes (Rev 14:4). It is not a song to be learned by singing with the mouth,
but a song to be learned and sung with the heart, the entire life, as a 'music' and
'worship' unto God. That is why it is a song that no one else can learn. It is not a
worship song we learn on Sunday service, but a worship song sung with a life of absolute
consecration. It is a life of sweet incense unto God, 'sung' only by a people that can
move His heart, to prevail with Him and to win Him.
